Akaza’s Personality in Demon Slayer

Akaza is a headstrong and almost maniacal demon who loves fighting and truly enjoys it when he gets to battle strong demon slayers.

His love for the battle is so profound and unflinching that he will purposefully drag out the battle so that his opponents use their strongest attacks in an effort to annihilate him. He is also seen giving compliments and remarks about the opponent’s powers and swordsmanship skills.

Akaza had no respect for people who were weaker than him, so much so that it made his skin crawl. Moreover, he only had respect for strong individuals with whom he could battle it out.

Books Worth Reading:

Akaza also believes that when a person is extremely skilled or talented, it is a waste to let those skills wither away with age which comes as a natural by-product of again. He offers strong opponents to become demons and be even more powerful and threatens to kill them if they decline.

Akaza clearly follows social Darwinism, a theory that suggests that all the weak should be eliminated.

Akaza’s Powers in Demon Slayer

Akaza, a character from the anime Demon Slayer, is shown using technique development to attack

Akaza is an extremely powerful demon who holds the third upper rank in the Twelve Kizuki. He was able to single-handedly defeat Kyojuro Rengoku, one of the strongest hashiras after he had given his all to the fight.

Martial arts: Akaza’s martial arts prowess is second to none and he can outmatch even the most skilled demon slayers that use swords with his bare hands.

He is also able to sense his opponent’s Fighting Spirit which allows him to basically predict the oncoming attacks and react to them pre-emptively. It is due to this, that his attacks are almost impossible to dodge and counter.

Books Worth Reading:

Superhuman durability: Akaza also possesses superhuman durability and longevity while he is fighting. This is thanks to the fact that he has an extremely high concentration of Muzan’s blood in him. During the fight with Rengoku, Kyojuro was unable to cut off his limbs even with some of his most powerful strikes.

Instantaneous Regeneration: If his durability already wasn’t so overpowered, Akaza can also regenerate from minor slash wounds almost instantaneously. This was seen when he didn’t die even after his head was chopped off by the Nichirin sword during the fight with Giyu and Tanjiro.

Enhanced Speed and Agility: During the fight with Rengoku, Akaza showcased immense, almost mind-numbing speeds at which he attacked. Tanjiro was unable to follow any of their movements during the fight which prevented him from intervening and helping the Hashira

Unmatched Strength & Stamina: Akaza like most demons never tire during fights and can go on indefinitely or until the sun rises.

When he was hit with Kyojuro’s Rising Scorching Sun, his arm was split open but he kept on laughing due to fact that he was enjoying the battle so much. The attack barely fazed him and didn’t diminish his strength or speed at all.

Akaza’s Blood Demon Art

Akaza, a character from the anime Demon Slayer, is shown using his Blood Demon Art technique.

Destructive Death: Like all of his moves, his blood demon art is based on martial arts and is especially devastating.

He implements the Soryu Style that he mastered while he was a human and creates catastrophic shock waves that are invisible to the eye and can take any shape or form to attack the opponent.

Compass Needle Technique: This is another one of Akaza’s blood demon arts in which he gains extrasensory perception that allows him to sense his opponent’s will to fight.

He then uses this information to attack the weak points of his enemy while being completely aware of his surroundings and even his blind spots.

Akaza’s Role in The Demon Slayer Series

Alt text: Akaza, a character from the anime Demon Slayer, is shown with a shocked expression on his face.

Akaza plays a crucial role in the Demon Slayer series as he is one of the Upper-Rank demons. He is extremely loyal to Muzan Kibutsuji and he will stop at nothing to fulfill his master’s wishes. As seen on the Mugen Train Arc, he is also the one who was responsible for killing Rengoku after an epic battle between the two.

Books Worth Reading:

Akaza at this point is over 200 years old and most people don’t look into his past which is quite sad and gives us some insight as to why he chose to become a demon in the first place.

As a kid, he would steal but he would only do so to provide for his father’s medicine which his family couldn’t afford. He loved his family so much that even after getting beaten to death several times, he said that he would take the beatings a hundred times over again if his father were to heal.

Is Akaza really bad?

Many will ask whether for all his deeds is the Third Upper Moon really a bad guy?

Well if we are being honest in his human days he was a lot more empathetic towards the people he loved and cared about and didn’t really think about his own pain and this tells us about how self-sacrificing he is.

Even after being corrupted into being a demon, he still doesn’t consume women and even felt shame using his martial arts for such vile deeds.

Books Worth Reading:

So while yes, he’s a despicable villain, he is by no means a cold blooded killer.
